Associate Professor Tan received her doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego where she was a Powell Fellow. She was also a Visiting Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).Prof Tan's fields of interest lie in experimental optical physics, which refers to the study of the properties and behaviours of light, as well as linear optical phenomena, nanophotonics and quantum optics. In her Keynote Speech, she will share on these areas of research. We will also be hearing her first hand account of what interested her in photonics devices and systems, what continues to fuel this interest and the challenges she has overcome in her research. We hope that our 姐妹们 will be inspired to venture into these engineering fields so often associated with men.
